Capt. Jack Nece Thomas
August 23, 1927 - January 29, 2011
Thunderbolt - Captain Jack Nece Thomas, Sr., 83, died January 29, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Savannah, son of the late David F. Thomas, Sr. and Mae Mattair Thomas. He was a graduate of Commercial High School and attended Armstrong Junior College. Captain Jack and Mrs. Thomas lived up and down the east coast while he served as a boat captain for over 55 years, most recently with Biblia, Inc. He also retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1974 after many years of service and the Seafarers. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post No. 184, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Lutheran Faith.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Betty M. Thomas of Thunderbolt, GA; children, JoAnn Thomas James of Midway; Jackie Boatright Robert of Midway; Stella Lavin James of Thunderbolt; Jack N. Thomas, Jr. Melanie of Guyton; Debra Niven Larry of Savannah; sister, Eleanor Cook of Guyton; 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Islands Christian Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
